The proposal is for a series of brief “Light Dances”, presented in series, or spread out over the period of an event. For example, a 2-3 minute performance may be presented each hour, or half hour, through the period of the opening of the Biennale.
The performances take place in silence and darkness. A single human figure is seen in silhouette at the center of light effects that appear to emerge from the body and extend into the surrounding space. Qualities of light—illumination, color, revelation of space—become part of the performer’s expressive capacity, articulated through the performer’s precise body movements. The surrounding architecture becomes fluid. Viewers find themselves within the “dance” (please see attached PDFs).
The performances are 2-3 minutes each. The light instruments are battery-powered and self-contained. The performances have few requirements: darkness and unobstructed surface area (wall space or greater) that lends itself to light projection.
